Andrew Tran and Caleb Place In Top Five At Bee

The Faulkner County Spelling Bee was held February 10th at the Mayflower Middle School gymnasium. Twenty-two students from Conway, St. Joseph, Mayflower, Vilonia, and Greenbrier Schools took part.
Eighth-graders Andrew Tran and Caleb Grigg represented our school. They both finished in the Top Five. Andrew won Third Place. His disqualifying word was "Kaddish" which is an ancient Jewish prayer. Caleb finished in Fifth Place and went out in Round Four on the word "Arapaho." It's a Native American tribe common to the plains of Colorado and Wyoming.
The First Place winner was Braden Eason from Vilonia Middle School. He won by spelling "justaucorps" which was a knee-length coat worn by men in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Braden will attend the State Spelling Bee on March 5 at the Vines Center in Little Rock. Should he not be able to attend 2nd Place winner Sky Martinez from Greenbrier Junior High will be his alternate. Congratulations to Andrew and Caleb for your fine showings.
