St. Joseph School's Junior High Quiz Bowl Team won 1st Place in a tournament held at Conway Christian Elementary School on February 7.
Five games were played with Bigelow, Conway Christian, Danville, Mt. Vernon/Enola and Southside Bee Branch. St. Joseph won all five of them; Bigelow by a score of 355-240, Conway Christian 355-200, Danville 370-100, Mt. Vernon/Enola 355-190 and Southside Bee Branch 355-60.
The team includes 7th graders Holden Bettis and Ella Kate Johnson and 8th graders Cameron Gooch, Tyson Mallett, Drew Nabholz, and William Sherman. Tyson was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. The team is coached by one of the two high school religion teachers, Mr. Shade Gilbert. Ms. Phyllis Eubanks, the other religion teacher, serves as the team's scorekeeper.
The upcoming District Tournament, which will be held in Cotter on February 14, could serve at the team's crowning achievement.
