St. Joseph High School Spanish teacher, Ms. Carina Martinez, recently spent Labor Day weekend enjoying the sights and culture of Paris, France. She did so under the auspices of EF Travel (Education First) in preparation for what will be her first experience as a student travel leader touring Spain for 11 days next summer. EF's stated mission is to provide travel as a tool for learning. "It was an amazing trip," Ms Martinez said.
Among the iconic sites she saw in the "City of Light" included the Eiffel Tower, the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Arc de Triomphe, and the Palace of Versailles.
The two short days she spent in Paris has whetted Ms. Martinez's appetite for educating students about the history and traditions of Spain. "We'll be visiting the cities of Malaga, Granada, Seville, Cordoba, Madrid and Barcelona," she said.
As a Spanish teacher, the tour should be especially rewarding for her given the origins of that language which is the world's second most spoken native tongue."I am hoping to encourage others to join in an amazing, once in a lifetime adventure," she said.
