St. Joseph High School 8th grader Lorilei Schluterman's artwork was recently chosen to represent our school in the annual Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest. It's sponsored locally by the Conway Evening Lions Club. Art teacher Penny Bassham organized St. Joseph's competition.
For more than three decades, Lions Clubs around the world have been sponsoring the contest in schools and youth groups. It gives young people in the age range of 11-13 years the chance to express their visions of peace and to inspire others in the process. This is especially appropriate today given the ongoing conflicts raging in the middle east and eastern Europe. The theme of this year's competition is "Dare to Dream."
Lorilei's poster, along with a written explanation of her vision, will be judged at the District and possibly State level. If it moves on to the International Contest she'd receive a trip to the judging ceremony where she could win an award and a $5,000 prize.
