   Senior Carolina Ferrer was recently notified by the The National Merit Scholarship Program that she had been named a Commended Scholar in its annual academic competition. Last year, the class of 2024 took the PSAT test along with 1.3 million high school students nationwide for recognition and college scholarships.
   This year, the top 34,000 students (about 2 percent of test takers) were named Commended Scholars. The top 16,000 students were chosen as National Merit Scholars. Commended Scholars receive a letter of commendation and are eligible for special scholarships from corporate sponsors. Congratulations, Carolina, for being honored in this way.
