Hide and Seek

Middle School 4th Grade teacher Nicole Gooch recently explored the world of entomology with her students. She instructed them with the topics "Why are so many people afraid of bugs?" and "Butterfly Camouflage Activity." The children explored the wide variety of life in the bug world and learned to appreciate their unique traits and abilities. They also learned the insects' physical and behavioral adaptations including camouflage.
Each child was given a blank butterfly to camouflage into the classroom. They looked around the room to find a habitat for their butterfly to live in. The butterflies were colored and designed in ways allowing them to blend in wherever they were placed. " When they were finished, the two classes switched to see if they could find all of their classmates' butterflies," Ms.Gooch said. " This was a fun way for them to get out of their seats and to see if they were masters of disguise." See if you can find Ivy Martens' butterfly like Ben Decker did.
Later on, the children completed a related hands-on activity called Paper Creepy Crawlers. It taught them about symmetry by creating colorful paper centipedes.
