Stimulating the Senses

St. Joseph Preschool children had fun this week using sensory bins. The bins were plastic tubs, containers, and  storage bags filled with materials and objects chosen to stimulate their senses. These included moon sand, sequined heart shapes, pom poms, and hair gel.
Preschool teachers have their students learn about different colors, shapes, and letters each month. This time, one group of kids played with space toys in the moon sand. Another created color patterns with sequined hearts and pom poms. A third group had sensory bags which were either written or sorted by color. These activities gave each child a hands-on tactile experience.
