HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER (Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, & Physical Science)

Job Description

Qualifications:

  1. Licensure

    1. Standard teaching license in the appropriate area, grade, or content area

    2. Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited institution of higher education and be qualified to teach in their major or minor field of study

    3. Accepted into an Alternative Licensure Program through DESE

  2. Strong interpersonal skills

  3. Ability to work collaboratively in grade level, school, and diocesan teams.

Reports to: St. Joseph High School Principal

Supervises: Not applicable

Terms of Employment: The contract length will be 188 days.

Evaluation: Based on the Diocese of Little Rock Office of Catholic Schools’ policies and performed by the building-level principal.

Job Goal: The classroom teacher will endeavor to teach and educate students according to standards for the Diocese of Little Rock as promulgated by the Office of Catholic Schools or other accrediting bodies. Furthermore, the teacher will teach the adopted curriculum developed and implemented by St. Joseph School, working continuously to provide the richest educational experience possible. They will also strive to teach and educate students according to the educational needs, abilities, and attainment potential of individual students entrusted to their care by St. Joseph School.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Follows and maintains knowledge of all St. Joseph School policies and procedures.

  2. Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons consistent to and aligned with school curricula.

  3. Possess and deploy various instructional strategies in order to meet different learning styles as well as specific needs of students assigned to him or her. 

  4. Stay abreast of changes in standards, curriculum documents, resources, and trends in education.

  5. Utilize and integrate appropriately student use of technology in the classroom.

  6. Assess, record, and report the development, progress, attainment, and behavior of all students.

  7. Embrace an attitude of being a continual learner, facilitator of learning, and a reflective practitioner.

  8. Utilize effective classroom management techniques to provide a safe learning environment for all students.

  9. Communicate regularly with parents and/or guardians about student progress, behavior, or needs.

  10. Be an active participant in collaborative planning, intervention, conferences, meetings, and assistance teams both at the building level and school levels when appropriate. 

  11. Use a variety of assessment tools to assess and gauge student progress, identify student needs, and extend learning.

  12. Maintain proper and correct records and all timelines according to school, diocese, state, and federal requirements in regard to student grades, attendance, and ISP progress if applicable.

  13. Ensure fairness and impartiality in all matters relating to students.

  14. Provide supervision for students at all times when students are assigned or entrusted to one’s care. 

  15. Engage in professional development to strengthen personal practice.

  16. Develop and maintain professional and collegial relationships.

  17. Other duties as assigned.

St. Joseph School maintains an in-house list of approved substitute teachers to be called upon when needed. If interested in being on the substitute list, please complete an application for employment.
