Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe the first month of 2016 is almost over. As you know, this past semester your child has been preparing to receive his/her First Reconciliation by learning about such things as The 10 Commandments, sin, contrition, forgiveness, and the role of the priest and the Church in this most precious Sacrament. This is a most exciting and important time in your child’s life! It is our hope that knowledge of the faith gained in the classroom, encounters with Jesus in Mass, adoration and through prayer, combined with experience of a lived faith within the family will continue to spiritually form these beautiful children for years to come.
This letter is to remind you that St. Joseph’s First Reconciliation Retreat: Celebrating God’s Mercy is scheduled for Saturday, February 27th from 8:45AM to 12:30PM* in the Parish Hall. At this retreat your child will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time! The purpose of the retreat is to bring together the 80+ children/teens of our parish who have been preparing for the sacrament in order to reflect on what has been learned and celebrate as a family the mercy of God. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available for those receiving the sacrament for the first time, as well as for parents as an opportunity to model an active faith.
We ask that one parent attend the Retreat per child (only one due to limited space). In order to conduct the retreat in a timely manner, we also ask that you make every effort to arrive early. Priests will be available to hear confessions in both English and Spanish, though the retreat will be conducted only in English. Finally, due to the solemnity of receiving this Sacrament, we ask that no photos be taken during the actual Sacrament.
For planning purposes a tentative schedule of the retreat is provided below:
8:45-9:20AM Registration, Opening Activity, and Introduction
9:20-10:30AM Fun Activities and Teachings on Reconciliation
10:30-10:35AM Reconciliation Instructions
10:35-10:45 Examination of Conscience
10:45-12:30PM* Dismissal to Church for Confession & penance
*After confession & penance families will be free to go, so ending time will vary
